Strengthening the Reading Classroom: Re-energizing Your Classroom Library in Grades K-8
The CESA 6 Literacy Center has teamed up with Ahrens Education Group to re-energize your classroom libraries for grades K-8.
STEP #1: Classroom Library Audit with Ahrens Education Group
Ahrens Education Group works with school districts to inventory, audit, assess and enhance their classroom libraries using Booksource Classroom. The process is designed to help districts better understand what books are available to their students and cultivate their libraries to maximize district curricular goal alignment and student engagement. Each individual Classroom Library Assessment is customized to meet the specific needs of the school district.
STEP #2: Implementation Support with the CESA 6 Literacy Center
Following the classroom library audit, the CESA 6 Literacy Center will support teachers and leaders to strengthen the implementation process.
- Understand the purpose and value of a high-quality classroom library
- Explore key elements of classroom libraries including atmosphere, organization, quality and selection, and reflections and connections
- Learn how the readers in your classroom, time, and choice impact motivation and the use of your classroom library
- Design ways to keep your classroom library “alive” and engaging across the entire school year
In-district professional learning and facilitated coaching sessions will provide support to build, grow, and enhance not only the physical space of your classroom library, but also the opportunities for your students to engage with high-quality texts that they can and want to read!
