Deep Dive Series for Grades K-1: Small Group Structures and Strategies To Support Phonological Awareness and Phonics
The CESA 6 Literacy Center has developed this series to bring K-1 literacy leaders and teachers together from across districts, to engage in deep learning regarding high-leverage instructional practices. These practices are supported by the most current research around the science of reading. We will take a “Deep Dive” into small group structures and strategies that can be used to support a range of phonological awareness and phonics skills, within an authentic context (reading and/or writing). The structures and strategies that we will explore are rooted in brain research and are aimed at supporting transfer of the identified skills to students’ independent reading and/or writing.
The collaborative learning sessions at CESA 6 will be designed to support participants in acquiring a deep understanding of a repertoire of small group structures and strategies that can be used to support deeper learning. Learning will also include the application of a range of phonological awareness and phonics skills.
The CESA 6 Literacy Center will provide customized in-district support to each district as they work to implement the new learning across classrooms.
