Overview
The CESA 6 Alternative Education Center include New Horizons and Amity Placement Centers; behavioral alternative programs that support students in Kindergarten - Grade 12. These centers strive to create a safe and responsive learning environment and identify and implement effective interventions and supports, so students have the necessary skills to transition back to their home schools, into the workplace and eventually become productive members of society.
Setting
A NON-TRADITIONAL SETTING and SMALL STUDENT-TO-STAFF RATIO provides students with the incentives and the individual opportunities needed to succeed. The alternative settings provide POSITIVE SUPPORT PROGRAMS with curricular alternatives designed to meet the individual needs, abilities and interests of students.
INDEPENDENCE
Student will, within the scope of his/her capability, develop self-care, pre-vocational and functional skills to be able to participate in school expectations and activities. Students are provided a variety of BEHAVIORAL, SENSORY, COPING AND/OR REGULATION NEEDS that cannot be dealt with effectively within the traditional school environment.
CORE ACADEMICS
Student will, within the scope of his/her capability, develop the academic skills needed in the areas of language arts, math, science and social studies. As an additional program benefit, students will also have access to a social emotional learning coach to develop different regulation strategies across settings, assist families with community programs and access volunteer opportunities.
