I have been employed as a Grant Writer with CESA 6 since August of 1998. Since then, I have written more than 300 highly competitive state and federal grant proposals yielding more than $40,000,000 for innovative school- and community-based programming, realizing a higher than 70% success rate. I have collaborated with more than 50 large and small school districts, non-profits, and county agencies in and out of Wisconsin on unique grant projects in support of PBIS implementation, AODA/violence/suicide prevention, health promotion, innovative technology applications, school safety, charter and alternative schools, and school counseling programs.

Hobbies / Interests:

I am the author of three novels: Mandatory Release (2013), All the Lonely People (2012), and Driving Sideways, a Target Break-Out Bestseller released by Ballantine Books in 2008. In my capacity as an author, I've done numerous library and book festival programs and have spoken with more than 60 book clubs.

In the years I have been at CESA, I have been trained and certified in MANY programs. (too many to list, but including: alcohol, drug, Mental Health, violence, safety, service learning, developmental assets, resiliency, citizenship, social work, YMHFA, TRIBES, PREPaRE, SBIRT, etc etc..)

I currently am part of the Wisconsin Safe & Healthy Schools Center, a statewide center that provides school safety. mental health, crisis management, suicide prevention, training and resources to all disricts. My region is CESA 2, 3, and 6, but I train across the state.

Experience / Background:

I started at CESA 6 in September of 1987, as a School Social Worker for Kewaskum half time and for CESA 6 Special Education half time. Within about 3 years, I moved to a grant program known as AODA Education Network. We/I were the WATODEN or Wisconsin Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Education Network as the 12 CESAs but have recently been changed to the Wisconsin Safe & Healthy Schools Training and Technical Assistance Center serving all schools in Wisconsin. I am specifically the Coordinator for CESA 6, 2 and 3. We/I work with a wide variety of prevention programs (alcohol and other drug, mental health/Trauma Sensitive, as well as violence), school climate (think TRIBES and others), crisis management, suicide prevention, mental health, bullying, Trauma Sensitive Schools, comprehensive school counseling, school/community partnerships, and other programs and projects.....

I earned my Bachelor's of Science Degree in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse in 2001. I then earned my Master's of Science Degree in School Psychology from the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse in 2002.  ollowing the completion of my Thesis, "Phonemic Awareness as a Predictor of Reading Comprehension," I earned my Educational Specialist Degree in School Psychology again from the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse in 2005. 

Experience / Background:

I have been working as a School Psychologist for a variety of different districts and with a variety of different roles since 2003. I have previously worked for New Holstein School District, Hilbert School District, Syble Hopp School, and the Little Chute Area School District. I have used my training and experience to help districts lay the groundwork for Response to Intervention. I have also previously been involved with the Wisconsin School Psychologist Association as a board member.

I started working with the Wisconsin RtI Center in 2011 and have been conducting trainings, technical assistance, support to schools, districts, and CESAs in their implementation of an Equitable Multi-Level System of Support. In this role I have developed expertise in Continuous Improvement, Systems Coaching, and led workgroups focused on Family Engagement and Institutes of Higher Education. 

Hobbies / Interests:

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my wife and two children, watching my son play soccer and my daughter compete in gymnastics, rooting for the Packers, Brewers, Badgers, and Bucks, spending time outside, and working on projects inside and outside of our house.
