OMRO SCHOOL DISTRICT
“I have had the great pleasure of working with the Literacy Center for the last three years. They have has successfully supported our district goal of improving student reading skills.
They have supported our elementary school with the implementation of Word Study, and effectively provided guidance to our middle school ELA teachers in our transition to the workshop model. The Literacy Center has been here for us through both successes and challenges; they have built trust with staff while at the same time being respectful of the unique challenges and demands of each role (e.g. student, specialist, teacher, administration).
I appreciate the support the Literacy Center has given our district. It is my belief that they have contributed to some of the improvements we are currently seeing in the area of literacy!”
- Erin Calvin, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Omro School District
PORT WASHINGTON - SAUKVILLE SCHOOL DISTRICT
“We are in our first year of transitioning into Readers Workshop and third year of Writers Workshop. The Literacy Center has been instrumental in the positivity and excitement from our teaching staff as they approach their learning. Their professionalism and knowledge make them the perfect match for our district. We look forward to our 4 year commitment of an ongoing relationship as they help instill confidence in our teachers as they implement new curriculum.”
- Chris Surfus, Director of Curriculum, Port Washington-Saukville School District
CEDARBURG SCHOOL DISTRICT
The Cedarburg School District has greatly benefitted from our partnership with the Literacy Center and CESA 6 over the past five years. They have trained many of our teachers at the elementary and middle school level in LLI; through that partnership, we became aware of the RAAD training offered by WestEd and CESA 6. We have been fortunate to train almost twenty staff members over the past two years. The Literacy Center has further supported our literacy efforts in Cedarburg by expertly coaching our literacy coaches around Lucy Calkins Units of Study in Writing and by providing RAAD coaching and professional development for our middle school staff and RAAD team. They have been an invaluable asset to our Cedarburg school community.
- Bunny Bauernfeind, Literacy Coach and Reading Specialist, Cedarburg School District
HARTFORD JT 1 SCHOOL DISTRICT
“The Literacy Center has been very involved in our district for the last couple of years. They are exceptionally knowledgeable in guiding our teachers with "Best Practices" in the area of literacy and have been creative in their approach to meeting the various needs of our staff. All teachers look forward to any PD that the Literacy Center provides, and many of our teachers continue to email them with individual questions. Their assistance has been very valuable to our district!”
- Chris Laatsch, Literacy Coordinator, Hartford Jt 1 School District
SCHOOL DISTRICT OF LOMIRA
“From the time we went to a workshop with the Literacy Center??????? we knew that we wanted them to help our district with integrating the units of reading and writing. The greatest thing about working with the Literacy Center was that they helped with the intimidation of it all. They made us feel like, yes we can do this, and encouraged us to take personal risks in deviating from our known content. It was their belief in the "units" of teaching that gave us the confidence to plunge right in.
Also, equally as important, they practiced what they preached. We all came away from their teachings, as readers, just as we hope the kids will. Some picking up a book here or there. The most impacted, our main English department, has boosted our reading volume substantially. We found the time, we are readers and it helps us to teach reading.”
- Aniya Langjahr, Middle School Teacher, School District of Lomira
EVANSVILLE COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT
“The leadership the Literacy Center provided to the Evansville Schools has made an incredibly positive impact on our teachers and students. They are an expert, not only with the content associated with literacy learning but also in terms of the way they effectively collaborate and communicate with all audiences; administrators, teachers, and students. They are somehow able to do all of this with grace and a wonderful sense of humor. Quite simply, I don't know what we would do without them.”
- Teresa Doyle, Literacy Coach, Evansville Community School District
IOLA-SCANDINAVIA SCHOOL DISTRICT
“The Literacy Center has worked with our elementary school for a few years, introducing our teachers to and providing professional development as we implement TCRWP reading and writing Units of Study. Their knowledge of the units of study is amazing, and they've been able to take us step by step through the units, help us plan the units, match them to our student learning outcomes, and plan assessments and make pacing guides. The Literacy Center knows how to meet teachers where they are in their learning of the units, and encourage them to think more deeply about what they can do and what is best for our students. They are well respected and liked by all of our staff members. Our school has become more literacy-focused and our staff is more knowledgeable about teaching and the learning of literacy because of the Literacy Center.”
- Kristen Bertsch, Reading Specialist, Iola-Scandinavia School District
DEFOREST AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT
“Students are carrying more of the cognitive load. Teachers are doing a lot less whole group, lecture style teaching and students are showing more engagement.”
“Teachers value her expertise, so they are trying the things she has taught them. More teachers are using a gradual release method of instruction, than before. Teachers also have a better understanding of some of the CCSS, because of the unpacking work she has had them do with lessons. Teachers are collaborating around instructional strategies she has shared.”
- Rebecca Toetz, Director of Instruction, Deforest Area School District
GENOA CITY JT 2 SCHOOL DISTRICT
“The quality of your work never ceases to amaze me. I feel so lucky that you are working onsite with us this year!”
- Kellie Bohn, Superintendent, Genoa City Jt. 2 School District
