How We Can Help

RITE Teacher Certification
Residency In Teacher Education (RITE) is a Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction approved alternative pathway to teacher licensure. In order to meet the educational needs of Wisconsin school students, RITE's mission is to grow highly-qualified and effective teachers to work in teacher-shortage areas in Wisconsin's school districts.

RITE ESL Certification
In partnership with the CESA 6 Language and Culture Center, RITE also offers an alternative pathway to obtain English as a Second Language (ESL) certification. With increasing numbers of students identified as English Language Learners (ELL), many Wisconsin school districts are facing the challenge of providing targeted instruction to second-language learners. CESA 6 RITE-ESL is designed for working educators who want to earn ESL certification. Programming is also available for Bilingual add-on licensure.

All RITE Participants
RITE offers adults who hold an appropriate Bachelor's degree the opportunity to become highly-qualified teachers in the State of Wisconsin. RITE teacher candidates receive formal instruction in the planning and delivery of effective instructional practices, knowledge and practice of teaching and learning theories, assessment of student progress, classroom management and educational technology, and content area studies. Interested individuals must complete the application process that determines acceptance into the program. Successful participation in RITE allows teacher candidates to work as teachers in the area of their expertise while simultaneously earning Wisconsin teaching certification. Teacher candidates receive continuous support by way of classroom experience with mentoring by school district personnel and CESA 6 RITE instructional coaches.

The RITE program will:

  • Deliver instruction to teacher candidates in order to insure proficiency in instructional strategies, classroom management, assessment, differentiation, special education process, and specific content area needs for individual teacher candidates.
  • Provide feedback and support, through trained CESA 6 instructional coaches regarding each teacher candidate’s teaching performance.
  • Consult with Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction personnel to ensure that all requirements pertaining to obtaining teacher licensure are met.
  • Consult, when necessary, with appropriate school district personnel to answer questions and provide necessary information and maintain lines of open communication as means of support for each teacher candidate.
  • Provide remediation and intervention support to candidates struggling with the job assignment / residency placement.
  • Prepare and submit to Wisconsin DPI the names of only those candidates who have successfully completed all requirements in the RITE program.

Inquiries and Applications are now being taken for the 2017-2018 RITE cohort. Application deadline for 2017-2018 cohort is July 31, 2017.
