School nursing is a specialized practice of professional nursing that advances the well-being, academic success, and life-long achievement of students. The fundamental role of the school nurse is to help students participate fully in their learning environment by preventing, removing and/or reducing health related barriers that interfere with their development and learning. There is a natural connection between health and education.

School nurses promote health and safety; intervene with and act on potential health problems; provide case management services, act as liaison between home, school and the medical community, and collaborate with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self management, self-advocacy, and learning.

Enhance your district's school nursing expertise through staffing, support or related professional development services:

  • School health program design- Policy and procedure development, implementation, and evaluation for school health services
  • Professional development- CESA 6 School Nurse Network meets three times per year, providing updates regarding current topics and professional networking opportunities.
