Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction identified Autism as a special education impairment area in 1995. Since 1995, the number of students identified as meeting eligibility criteria for an educational impairment of autism has significantly increased. This increase has subsequently significantly impacted schools in providing support services to meet the unique learning, processing, and behavioral needs of students with autism. The CESA 6 autism team was developed in 1995 to provide a variety of support services to school districts, to better support and meet the educational needs of students identified with an educational impairment of autism.

The CESA 6 autism team is comprised of 3 experienced autism consultants. Of the CESAs in the state, this service is unique. The varied educational backgrounds and experience of our autism team offers a well-rounded support network for providing autism consultative services.
